Diversity in love: Christopher Street Day Freiburg June 2019
hristopher Street Day in Freiburg last weekend was a powerful demonstration of how important it is to be free to choose who and how we love. It was a very emotional celebration not only because it was so touching to see so many people standing up for love (around 15,000), but also because it reminded me that there are still so many conditions attached to how we should live and in turn how and who we should love. I found it super inspiring to see people as they are and want to be - naked, dressed up, kissing and parading without any shame.
I sometimes find myself contemplating how I find myself still thinking in old forms. The old ways I was educated by my parents and how society has had its role in programming how I think and feel. We should consciously open up and allow such days to proliferate our everyday life, it should no longer be anything unusual that we look at from the outside as a fad or even just as ‘other’. We all have a right to love, which should go without saying. Love is a human need.
